With one email to their entire Etsy customer list this Marketsy user added $55K of revenue to their ecommerce store in May 2021. This was the first email campaign they ever sent.
Above is the screenshot of their Drip account.
This is why email is so important for online business owners — it creates immediate impact. You create a direct line of communication to your audience and build deeper relationships with them month after month.
The challenge? Etsy doesn’t make it easy to get your customer data out of the seller dashboard.
Here’s the story of how this Etsy seller used Marketsy to download their Etsy customer data and grow their Shopify sales.

The Technology You’ll Need to Duplicate Their Success
Etsy doesn’t provide a way to download your Etsy customer emails. Marketsy is a tool that help Etsy sellers download their customer data, store it, and transfer it to wherever you want.
They already had a Shopify set up so they needed a email service provider (ESP). They reached out to us to ask for advice on which one to use and we pointed them at Drip.com. Drip is an ESP focused on ecommerce and has powerful automations, segmentation and pixels they offer to all accounts.
With these tools alone — Marketsy, Shopify, and Drip — you can start sending trackable email campaigns.
Once the data is downloaded they then downloaded the data from the Marketsy dashboard.
Your First Email Campaign: What Worked for Them
Keep it simple, create a discount, and make urgency.
These are the core ideas on how to have a first successful email campaign to your Etsy customers.
Keep it Simple
To do email effectively you need have simple emails that limit offers to ten things max. Think about your local Chinese restaurant that has hundreds of options on the menu. It’s hard to pick right?
Email works the same way. Keep it simple stupid. You’ll make more money.
Create a Discount
Next, create an incentive for them to buy. Shopify has some built in ways to do this. You can create a discount for a whole collection or you can create a coupon code.
Either way, offer a specific discount that they exclusively get for being on the mailing list.
Make urgency
Finally, you want to create urgency. In this context, urgency means creating an incentive to buy by making the offer exist for only a limited time. You want people to have a deadline to make a purchasing decision. This will increase your sales.
Some Final Data Insights
Email is one of the most challenging forms of marketing to execute, but when done right can make a massive impact.
Email revenue typically doesn’t come from the first day. It will trickle in day after day. Be patient, people will open the email, go about their day, come back to it, click and then make a purchase. Below is a graph showing how people bought for the $55K campaign.
Look at that beautiful graph! 🤤 Even months later they’re still getting sales from this campaign.
